Hello Whitsundays!

The Whitsundays have always been one of Australia’s premier destinations and with overseas travel off the cards indefinitely, there’s never been a better time to come and see why our 74 tropical islands are just as impressive as anywhere else in the world.

Even better, exploring the fabulous Whitsunday Islands via bareboat yacht charter gives you the freedom to tailor-make your own personal holiday. With total control of your adventure, you can create your dream Whitsunday Sailing holiday. Do the things you want, when you want. Whether you’re keen for an exciting few weeks of action-packed exploration, or a shorter, relaxed, romantic getaway, a yacht charter is the ideal choice for your next holiday.

Make the Road Trip part of the Adventure

This coastal trip is a favourite with backpackers, caravanners and all manner of road trippers, as there is so much to see and do along the way. Driving from Brisbane to Airlie Beach is as much about the journey as it is about the destination. Airlie Beach is known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the ultimate destination, the Whitsundays is the “Jewel in the Crown”.

Here’s why the Whitsundays are one of the world’s best holiday destinations.

Paradise At Home

The Whitsunday Islands truly are Australia’s own tropical paradise. Not only do we have incredible turquoise waters, amazing wildlife, and stunning reefs, but the Whitsundays is also home to Whitehaven Beach, chosen regularly as one of the world’s most gorgeous beaches and one of the most photographed spots in Australia.

And the best bit? No passports, visas, long haul flight or jet lag to worry about! Simply hop in your car and set off on a road trip or board a domestic flight. Either way you will save money and time, making for a more relaxed and enjoyable holiday.

Support Local Economies

Many businesses have been hit hard by COVID-19, but the tourism sector has really taken a hit. When you visit the beautiful Whitsunday islands and spend money at onshore shops and restaurants, you’re supporting local Whitsunday businesses and helping to boost the local economy.

Incredible Wildlife

The Whitsundays are a nature lover’s paradise. Whether you prefer to snorkel, dive, fish or go bushwalking, you are guaranteed to catch sight of some spectacular wildlife.

Snorkeling right off the deck of your yacht will bring you face to face with some of the most striking, colourful and unique fish you’ve ever seen including the breathtaking manta ray and majestic sea turtle. These are a few of the best snorkeling spots in the Whitsundays.

Many fishermen travel to the Whitsundays because they know it is prime fishing territory. Some delicious fish can be caught in these waters, making for a splendid meal from the privacy of your yacht charter. Popular fish you may want to try include coral trout, giant trevally, and Spanish mackerel. But in the Whitsundays, we’re all about wildlife! There are many protected species of fish who inhabit these waters, and while it is prohibited to fish these species, you can still enjoy their rare beauty.

Here’s everything you need to know about fishing while sailing in the Whitsundays.

On land, there are birds a plenty including the much-loved rainbow lorikeet, sulphur-crested cockatoo and kookaburra as well as more exotic species like the white-bellied sea eagle, red-tailed black cockatoo and bush stone curlew. Head onshore to some of the islands and explore the many walking tracks available. You’ll be treated to amazing view points and culturally significant sites.

White Sand Beaches

With 74 islands to choose from, you’re never far from a stunning white sand beach in the Whitsundays. With white sands, turquoise waters and zero crowds, the Whitsundays is a true tropical paradise. Swim, snorkel or simply stroll along the beach – with a Dream Yacht Charter, you set the pace!

Whale Season in the Whitsundays

As if you needed another reason to visit the Whitsundays, June to September is whale season! As the arctic waters turn colder, humpback whales begin their annual migration north towards more temperate waters. Journeying for approximately 25,000km, the humpback whale migrates further than almost any other creature and being out on the water on your own chartered vessel means you have the opportunity to witness whale behaviour up close in the wild.

A bareboat yacht charter gives you the unique opportunity to see humpback whales swimming, playing, and breaching around the islands without the crowds. You may even be lucky enough to spot a calf with its mother as the warm, safe waters of the tropical Whitsundays are the perfect birthing spot.

Of course, for the whales’ safety (and yours), there are strict  rules for watching marine mammals in Queensland waters.

Destination Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is a great destination all of its own, with plenty to see and do before or after your yacht charter. The relaxed pace and tropical atmosphere in Airlie Beach gives the whole town a holiday vibe, perfect for some laidback shopping, dining, and exploration.

For more action, you can choose from 4WD tours, water sports, segway tours, skydiving, and horse riding.

Looking for history and entertainment? You can watch movies or catch a show at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre or visit the museum in Proserpine, just 15 mins away. Also check out Bown, a 40 minute drive, where you’ll find a cinema, museum, and more spectacular beaches.

And while you’re discovering the Whitsundays onshore, why not indulge in a game of golf at the Proserpine Golf Club, just 25km from Airlie Beach.
