Home » 3 Awesome Things To Do in Airlie Beach
test
Airlie Beach, located on the east coast of central Queensland, is the departure point for nearly all adventures in the Whitsundays. Queensland Yacht Charters’ own base is right here in Airlie Beach at Abel Point Marina. A lively, tropical town Airlie Beach has a wonder of delightful restaurants, interesting attractions, and much to keep you busy before or after a relaxing Whitsundays sailing trip. There are many great things to do in Airlie Beach, and a few of them are special events happening just this month!

Airlie Beach Running Festival (18-19 July)

Held by the Whitsunday Running Club, the Airlie Beach Running Festival is now in its 3rd year. This popular event includes a variety of race options for athletes of all levels. The well known Half Marathon (Race 3 of 5 in the ANQ Half Marathon Series) will take runners on a solid challenge at 21.1km. This can also be completed as 3-person relay race, with each runner covering 7km of the distance. For a quicker race, join in the Balance Podiatry 5km run or join with your co-workers in the 5km Corporate Team Challenge. Also parts of the event are the Port of Airlie 10km Fun Run, and a brand new event for younger competitors: the Sea Star 2km Kidz Fun Run. Register ASAP to sign up for these exciting races!

XXXX Series (18-19 July)

Although the Round Whitsunday Race just took place on 4 July, there are two more not-to-be-missed events coming up as part of the XXXX Series. On July 18 and 19, a Short Offshore race and a Bay Race will take place. This series is a classic event in the Whitsunday Islands. It is a true delight to watch as the boats race by, their pure white sails gliding across the water. Enjoy cheering on as accomplished competitor’s race for the prize, and then head out on the water yourself to explore the islands on your private yacht charter.

Bowen Superboats (17-19 July)

Before heading out to the islands proper, you may want to visit another of the mainland gems of the Whitsundays: Bowen. An attractive area with numerous inviting beaches, Bowen is just a 40 minute drive north of Airlie Beach. The Bowen Superboats event will rivet you and your family, as you watch more than a dozen boats race through the ocean at over 200km/hr. Racing takes place Friday and Saturday, with other events happening as well. Friday night hosts the Superboat Street Fest, where visitors can see the boats up close and personal. The Superboat Shindig takes place on Saturday night in Bowen’s Soundshell where live music will have everyone dancing. This event will also feature children’s rides, shops, and even helicopter rides.
