Cruising The Whitsundays With Sail Magazine

Earlier this month, Sail Magazine featured an article about our very own Whitsundays. Queensland Yacht Charters was lucky enough to host Eric Vohr as he embarked on a clockwise tour of our famous archipelago.
Eric’s Whitsunday Sailing Itinerary
After receiving his briefing at Coral Sea Marina Resort from Queensland Yacht Charters, Eric and his photographer headed to Nara Inlet on Hook Island.
“Nara Inlet is a deep, long, protected bay with a sandy bottom and lots of good anchorages. It’s an easy couple of hours sail from the charter base, making it a no-stress first day out.”
Impressed by the ancient cave paintings left behind from the Ngaro people, and the noise of the cockatoos, Eric’s headed off to his next anchorage – Stonehaven. Known for its excellent snorkelling, Stonehaven did not disappoint with Eric encountering a very friendly hawksbill turtle. Eric’s thoughts on the next two anchorages, Blue Pearl Bay and Cateran Bay:
“just the kind of remote, wild and breathtaking experience we were looking for”
Next stop: Whitsunday Island and the world famous Whitehaven Beach. Eric recommends anchoring at the southeastern end (weather permitting) as you will be close to the trail to Chance Bay. Other areas to explore include Tongue Point, Hill Inlet and Betty’s Beach.
Eric’s final anchorage was Sawmill Harbour where he tackled the challenging 2-hour hike up to the lookout. Not only is the view from the top breathtaking, the trail
“winds through a lush rainforest rife with galloping lizards and lots of noisy colorful birds. If you’re not up for the hike, there’s a secluded beach here that served as a perfect spot for the last “sundowner” of our cruise.”
Eric went on to explore other areas of Queensland after his Whitsunday sailing experience. So, what did he make of our little piece of paradise?
