Best Time To Go To the Whitsundays:

When is the best time to visit the Whitsundays? It’s one of our most frequently asked questions and one of the hardest to answer. Why? Because the weather in the Whitsundays is beautiful all year round with each season bringing its own unique set of conditions and marine life.

You can book your Whitsunday yacht charter at the time of year that suits you best. But whenever you come, we know you’ll love it here

BEST TIME TO SAIL WHITSUNDAYS

When it starts to get cold in other parts of Australia, winter in the Whitsundays is simply spectacular. The rain has cleared and you’ll be greeted with sunny days and mild temperatures (averaging around 24-25°C). Evenings can be cooler so pop a light jumper or jacket in your suitcase. This is my favourite time to sail in the Whitsundays, crisp clear water, mild days, and clear starry skies at night.

As winter fades into spring, the days stay dry and the temperatures start to increase, averaging around 26°C. Spring tides also bring incredible full moons and September/October tends to be quieter than the busy months.

Summer is hot, humid and often wet, although you may only experience the occasional short shower. The best thing about the rain is the waterfalls that you can visit! Temperatures average around 31°C. While summer is considered to be the low season in the Whitsundays, for many, including locals, it’s the best time to get out and explore the Islands. One of the biggest drawcards for sailing in summer is you get to experience the Islands without crowds. Another bonus is the rates in summer are significantly lower, which means if you charter for several days, you reduce your hire costs by thousands of dollars and have more money to spend on the essentials – Food and Wine and add a few Toys!

Yes, there is a wet season in our part of the world over summer. However, our wet season doesn’t have constant rain; even at its peak around Feb, showers often pass quickly, and some days are rain-free. There is no shortage of things to do onshore at this time of year, but if you want to get away from it all, climb aboard your own bareboat charter and sail to your own beat.

As summer winds down, the tourists start to disperse and the temperatures drop slightly. Autumn is still the official “wet season” so you can expect warm, humid days and slightly cooler evenings. With crystal clear waters, white sand beaches and an abundance of marine life all year round, the best time to visit the Whitsundays is truly ANYTIME.

Whale Season in the Whitsundays

From June through to September, whales can be seen all around the Whitsundays islands as they make their annual migration from cold arctic waters to more temperate waters in the north.

Whale watching from the privacy of your own charter yacht is the perfect way to avoid the crowds and enjoy the majesty of these gigantic mammals as they swim, play and interact with the boats as they pass by. Sightings of mothers and calves are common in the Whitsundays as the warm waters make the islands an ideal birthing spot.

There are specific rules for watching marine mammals and these approach distances for whales and dolphins should always be followed to avoid disturbing them.
