Erin Marjory’s Sailing Adventure on Miss Devereux

Brisbane writer Erin Marjory recently returned from an adventure with a group of friends on one of our most popular sailing vessels: Miss Devereux. She has written an excellent blog post about her experiences, complete with an informative sailing guide and some stunning images. We highly recommend checking it out over on Erin’s website, as well as some of her other travel adventures, insights and observations.

Here’s a snapshot of what Erin and her friends got up to during their seven-day sailing escapade.

Erin’s Whitsunday Itinerary

Erin and her friends chose a really exciting itinerary that takes in some of the Whitsundays best spots. You can read a complete account of each stop on Erin’s blog, but here’s a quick summary (please note: Day 1 refers to the first day of sailing, not the arrival day)

Day 1

  • Nara Inlet (Hook Island) – our recommended first night stop

Day 2

  • Langford Island – perfect for a beach picnic and snorkelling
  • Butterfly Bay (Hook Island) – exceptional snorkelling and dramatic scenery

Day 3

  • Whitehaven Beach – over seven kilometres of shore to swim, snorkel or just laze about
  • Hamilton Island – stock up on supplies, drop off your rubbish and grab a shower!
  • Turtle Bay (Whitsunday Island)  – plenty of hiking tracks and stunning beaches

You’ll be spoiled with incredible views all day, everyday on your Whitsunday yacht charter. Photo of Turtle Bay (Whitsunday Island) taken by Toby.

Day 4

  • Neck Bay (Shaw Island) – one of the most southerly anchorages, Neck Bay is one of the more secluded spots
  • Lindeman Island – safe anchorages and good fishing spots

Day 5

  • Cid Harbour – keep your eyes out for humpbacks during whale-watching season
  • Sawmill Bay – a large sheltered cove that makes it a popular anchorage spot

Day 6

  • South Molle Island – a fantastic walking track which offers 360° views of the surrounding islands.
  • Funnel Bay – magnificent views and the perfect anchorage for your final night on the water

What to Pack for Your Whitsunday Sailing Holiday

Erin has put together a fantastic packing list in her post, as well as some food and beverage tips. Her top recommendation is to make your way to the Airlie Beach Hotel bottle shop for all your beverage needs.

“They have a larger selection … and they even gave us a lift back to the marina with our alcohol!”
