Getting ready to embark on an adventure on the water?
First, check out part one of our sailing holiday packing list. That will tell you everything you need to know about the basics of packing for a yacht holiday. It starts with a good bag and a sense of adventure.
Today, we present part two, focusing on the toiletries you’ll want to bring on board. While you’re on your yacht charter, there probably won’t be too much demand for excessive toiletries. The salt water is your cleanser and the sun is your vitamin. With days spent adventuring and nights of relaxation, you likely won’t be reaching for that can of hairspray. A Whitsunday holiday is a time to allow for a little wildness. Embrace your hair’s natural texture and enjoy the feeling of being close to the sea.
However, there are some items we do recommend, to keep you feeling your very best. These are toiletries and other extras that help protect your skin, hair, and body while still protecting the earth. When possible, choose biodegradable toiletries that won’t damage the earth around you, especially since these products are going to end up directly in the ocean! Here’s what to pack, and some cool products we recommend, too.
● Sun cream
In our previous post, we heralded Soleo Organics, which are a fabulous earth-friendly sun care choice that will give your skin the sun protection it needs.
● Moisturiser
The sun makes you feel great, but it can also deplete your skin of vital moisture. The same is true of salt water. In order to keep your skin feeling soft, smooth, and healthy, a good moisturiser is a must. Happy Skin Care is an Australian brand boasting 100% natural, vegan products. They have a good range of moisturisers to choose from.
● Sun-protecting lip balm
Stream2Sea makes incredible products that are biodegradable and eco friendly. They have a sun protecting lip balm that smells yummy and will keep those lips soft and safe. According to their website, “ all of our mineral sunscreens and natural body care products are made of natural ingredients, biodegradable and tested safe for fish and coral larvae.” This makes their products fantastic for use in the Whitsundays.
● Shampoo / Conditioner
For many of us, shampoo and conditioner are some of the most important toiletries. And for excellent hair care, you want high quality products that work. On a sailing holiday, you’ll be after a shampoo and conditioner that will make your hair look its best, while being an environmentally friendly choice. And wouldn’t it be great to swim in the sea without worrying about the impact of harmful products? For eco-friendly shampoo, conditioner, and even body wash, we recommend Ethique. Their deliciously-scented products come in solid form, which means they’re light and easy to pack with zero risk of spills.
● Body wash
Get your body clean and fresh and protect the earth at the same time. That’s the purpose behind the Wilderness Wash by Sea to Summit. This body wash is specifically designed for outdoor adventuring, and is fully biodegradable. Not only can it be used on the body, but works for clothing and dishes as well.
● Eye drops
Some people find saltwater can be irritating to their eyes. Toss a quality bottle of eye drops into your toiletry bag for happy eyes.
● Hairbrush
You will probably want to keep your hair detangled and a bit styled during your trip. Pack a hairbrush or comb (small, travel sized is best) and if you have extra unruly locks, consider looking for an eco-friendly detangling spray.
● Deodorant
Your fellow travel mates will appreciate this one! Deodorant is one of those products you definitely will want to bring along, as you’re going to have action-packed days in, on, and out of the water. You don’t have to choose one that’s full of chemicals, however. Check out the amazing deodorant paste from Black Chicken Remedies.
Now you’ll be packed and ready to go like a sailing pro. The Whitsundays await!
